Wonder Wild

Riley and I met up with our friends Dianne and Harper (from swim class) at Wonder Wild. We had not been before but had heard of the fun times had there. It did not disappoint. Basically Wonder Wild is a large indoor playground. There is a huge inflatable slide, a huge jungle-gym of sorts with a couple of slides, a bouncing pillow, and an area for smaller children too. Riley started in the area for small children and quickly grew bored! Riley explored the whole place and especially loved going up the stairs! What a big girl!!!
Riley and I loved going down Slide #1 togther. Slide #2, not so much. Riley was ready to be out of that slide!

Showering Lindsay

lindsayshower092

Last weekend, I helped host a baby shower for a friend from my sunday school class. I was a little unsure how so many women would fit in our home, but everything worked out great; we all had a great time, everything was beautiful and Lindsay was showered with love and gifts! Lindsay is expecting a sweet baby boy soon! Can't wait to meet Cayden!

Lindsay and her husband Brian love monkeys! So the shower was not complete without a few subtle monkeys here and there!

My first attempts at flower arranging, sort of similar to something I saw on Paige's blog for Jeni's shower (minus roses.)

Lindsay's sweet friend (Emily, in the middle) made Lindsay's bedding for her. It was her first time to make baby bedding and she did such a great job. What an amazing friend!

Wordless wednesday

A popular concept around the blogosphere. Wordless Wednesday. (I doubt I will be able to keep up with this every week. But I'll give it a go.) And the Wordless part starts NOW.

Book worm

Riley LOVES books. She cannot get enough. She will bring you book after book after book. Her favorites right now are Animal Sounds, which is an old Golden book of mine from when I was a child, Brown Bear Brown Bear by Eric Carle, and I Love You Through and Through. We read each of these favorites at least 3 times a day.

Visit from Caroline

A few weeks back. My old college roomie (sophomore year. Jefferson commons. yea!) Allison and her sweet daughter Caroline came to visit. They were in town from DFW visiting family. It was sooo great to catch up with Allison and to see how much Caroline has grown. She is such a beautiful, sweet, fun little girl. Can't wait til next time!

Sharing a snack!

Houston project

Each year around the middle of July, our church does a "mission trip" within our own city of Houston. Most of the sites, if not all are in underprivileged, inner-city areas. This year there were 13 different sites and at each site church members put on a week long VBS, have youth and adult ministry, have evangelism teams going out into the neighborhood of the site, and provide food for all.

Two years ago, I was able to lead VBS at one of the sites...thanks to a little encouragement from a friend Kari (who with her husband were the sites overall leaders.) That was my first time doing Houston Project and it was amazing! The kids that we were serving were so similar to the children at SSE, where I was teaching at the time. Sidetracked. Anyway, last year because I had just had Riley we were not able to participate.

This year, Clay and I and Riley volunteered at a different site, somewhat closer to our home. This particular site teamed up with FCA for the first time and offered a free sports camp. I wasn't sure where I wanted to serve (vbs, sports camp, food, etc.) and so while attending one of the meetings the site leader for Nottingham Park mentioned a need for a photographer to document the week. Well, I decided I would give it a go. I knew that my pictures are no where near the professional level but I thought it would give me great practice and I would be serving at the same time!

Long story but below are some of the images I came away with.
Clay helping with VBS.
This is not me. I must have liked this sweet little boy. He is in so many pictures.
Riley was a hit. One afternoon (Houston project takes place in the evenings), I had just arrived and was helping children register before starting to take pics. The 0-3 year old volunteers had not arrived yet so I had Riley with me. These two precious, sweet boys ran up to us and asked to hold Riley. Of course I could not say no! And they were so sweet to assure me that they helped raise their sisters and cousins. Well, Riley LOVED these two boys. So much in fact that when I tried to take her back she clung to the boys shirt and refused to go with me! HA! So much for separation anxiety! :) Above is Riley being held by her favorite friends as other friends and the 0-3 year old volunteer looked on.
Below is a picture of Riley with each her newest favorite people.

Funny.

Walking!!!

So Riley is definitely walking now!! She had been taking a few steps here and a couple there and then two weekends ago she started stringing the steps together more. I would say she started walking about 25% of the time and now is up to about 80% of the time.

She still resorts to crawling when she wants to get somewhere fast! The scary thing about her walking is I can turn around for only a second and she's gone (when crawling I could hear her hands hitting the ground and knees shuffling).

I love the way she walks huge steps; some wobbly, some strong, some very fast almost running-like, some high steps, some side steps. Just plain fun to watch!

(We are not usually so quiet, we were trying not to distract Riley! :)

Slogger

So I am slacking at blogging. Slogging.

No real reason or explanation. Just slogging.

I will blog more. I will.
I keep this blog not only as a way of keeping my family and friends up to date with us, but also as a way to document the happenings of our life. A family diary of sorts. Big and small, silly or serious, it is fun to keep track and look back. I will blog more.
